HOW TO LABEL JPG FILES
Each VISUAL ARTicle image file is required to be titled with your name, one space, copyright symbol, completion date, one space and a two digit number representing the order of images displayed in your portfolio folder or set.
- EX: John Smith ©2010 04 / Jane Doe ©2010 16
- The reason you consistently leave a space between your last name and the © symbol is so your JPG images will automatically divide into years and sequential order in your CMS Student Folders.
- Ex: Name ©2010 25, Name ©2010 26, Name ©2010 27, Name ©2011 01, Name ©2011 02, Name ©2011 03
- Please take note your master images are titled John Smith ©2010 04 300ppi Images intended for the web are resized to 72ppi BUT the title does not bear the image size.
TIP ONE: Making a copyright symbol
- Windows or MAC systems WILL NOT allow you key in the © symbol and save it within the original file title. You CAN RENAME the title to include the © symbol using Copy and Paste. See the following instructions.
- SAVE AS the title of your jpg image with only letters and numbers - John Smith 2010 04
- To make a copyright symbol © - Open a word document and strike the following sequential keys without spaces ( c ) An application within the word document will automatically change this sequence into the © symbol.
TIP TWO: Making an artist title template
- Open a word document / type the complete title sequence with the Your name © symbol, the current year and a number – John Smith ©2010 04
- Highlight your artist title template with a left click after the last digit /then scroll backwards over the title / left click / the title will darken / release the left click and right click on the darken title to open the menu / scroll down the menu to right click on COPY / now you are ready to rename your JPG image files by inserting the copied title
- HINT: You cursor or mouse memory holds ONLY ONE COPY at a time. If you right or left click before you are ready to PASTE you will loose your artist title template and will have to repeat the COPY step.
TIP THREE: Inserting your artist title template into a JPG file title
- Left click on your JPG file / right click on the JPG title / scroll down the menu and left click on RENAME to edit your title.
- Right click on PASTE / The result should look like this John Smith ©2010 01
- REMEMBER you will need to change the number to 02 03 04 05 etc… each time you rename a new JPG file / otherwise, an error message opens to warn you that a previous file has the same title.
- Left click on the highlighted title to SAVE the new title / left click = SAVE AS / A drop down menu does not open when saving a RENAMED JPG title
HINTS
- The process is fastest when you change several titles, one after the other.
- Right and left click options are set within your cursor properties / Practice the copy and paste steps to determine how your preference is set.
