IB CAS = Creativity + Action + Service
- Blog and Portfolio – weekly featured artist
- Featured Artist schedule – 1-2 week lead time
- Featured Artist chosen at critique
- Featured Artist and critique participants submit art for photographing
- Students signed up for photo tutorial photograph all art OR Ms. Hagen photographs art
- All images Photoshop enhanced and sized for Flickr
- Featured Artist submits Statement for proofing, statements returned for editing
- WordPress - students signed up for tutorial layout Featured Artist artwork and statement in draft format OR Ms. Hagen sets up blog
- Flickr - featured artwork posted in Photostream; Featured Artist posted in exact order last so they appear first
- WordPress – feature published / layout proofed
- Links emailed to featured artist
- Featured Artist emails announcement to family, friends & college advisers
- CAS Hour participants submit CAS reports to Ms. Profitt
1. Develop new skills
- HHS Visual Art Club is an extracurricular activity
- How much you learn will depend on your schedule and interest
- You are responsible for reporting your CAS hours to Ms. Profitt
2. Undertake new challenges
- Learn to photograph your art
- Learn to upload images to a Flickr online portfolio
- Learn how to measure and describe your art
- Learn to write an art description
- Learn to post a WordPress blog
- Learn to interpret WordPress and Flickr site statistics
3. Planned activities
Monday and Tuesday critiques
- FEATURED ARTIST is chosen weekly
- Each student has an opportunity to be the FEATURED ARTIST
- Finished art is collected to photograph after the critiques
3. Initiate activities
Sign up for a tutorial on photographing YOUR art
- Artwork is photographed as weather and schedules allow, our best estimate is on Tuesdays
- You may use your camera, provide the make and model to Ms. Hagen 1 week prior to your lesson
- SERVICE: Tutor photographs all finished art turned in by classmates

ARTIST STATEMENT by the Featured Artist
SERVICE: Visual Art Club members proof Featured Artist Statements
- Write a concise paragraph on one of these three subjects
- investigate your medium and technique
- define the subject of your featured artwork
- describe your creative process
5. Work collaboratively
ACTION: Pairs of students PhotoShop raw images & upload photos
- PhotoShop new images – 300ppi master + 72ppi x 500px
- file into CMS Image Library student folders
- upload images to Flickr.
- Open new artwork in Flickr

6. Show perseverance and commitment to activities
- Photograph all of YOUR artwork or scan Investigation Sketchbook
- Ensure your classroom digital student folder is current
- Ensure your art is uploaded to YOUR online portfolio set
- Folders should be completed prior to the April Art Show
- Please list exhibitions, scholarships and final college choice in your student folder
- Copy your portfolio at the end of the school year
7. Engaged with issues of global importance
- Engage an IB Visual Arts group outside the United States
8. Considered the ethical implications of actions
- Learn how to make a digital copyright symbol
- Guest speaker on Copyright Laws – focus WWW
FYI: Copyright infringement by members puts the club at risk
- Violations are cited and brought to the club
- Violations will be corrected and discussed
- Honest mistake vs. Intentional actions
- Intentional violations will be disciplined by the club
PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER
Artwork will be photographed for students in the fall before college early-action applications are due and in the spring prior to shipping the IB portfolios and posting AP art work online. This service assists students during the busiest times of the school year and aids students whose photography skills are not equal to their artistic skills.
